LEASH UP & DRINK ON - YAPPY HOUR IN MILWAUKEE

July 26, 2018

If you live in (or have visited) Milwaukee, WI, there's no denying that the drinking culture is real. With just as many beer drinkers as there are dog lovers, I've repeatedly been asked the question, "where can I go to grab a drink with my dog?" Look no further! Below is a list of our top 10 favorite locations in the Milwaukee area to grab a drink with your hound.

Indoor dog-friendly establishments:

1. Black Husky Brewing
909 E. Locust St., (414) 509-8855

The Riverwest brewery opened in 2016, and its namesake comes from owners Tim and Toni's beloved husky, Howler. Each beer label even features a photo of a dog; the Eichingers have owned 23 dogs total. It's safe to say that dogs aren't just welcomed.

2. Broken Bat Brewing Company
231 E. Buffalo St., (414) 316-9197

The baseball-themed brewery and taproom is located in a Third Ward basement. Even though dogs aren't allowed inside Miller Park (except Hank, of course), Fido can still experience the fun and excitement of a baseball game while you sip some tasty, baseball-inspired craft beers and eat peanuts.

3. Mob Craft Beer

505 S 5th St., (414) 488-2019

Mobcraft bills itself as the world’s “first completely crowd-sourced brewery." Now that’s a project we can get behind! This local craft brewery welcomes our furry pals with open arms (paws?). Plus, the names of some of their beers are enough to make our mouths water: Hop Goes the Grapefruit and Diligence Peach, anyone?

4. Boone & Crockett / The Cooperage

818 South Water St., (414) 212-8118

Boone & Crockett is Milwaukee’s premier riverside Cocktail Bar and Whiskey Lounge as well as home to Taco Moto. Hearkening to an era past, Boone features award winning Drinks in a welcoming north woods environment.

5. Camp Bar
4044 N. Oakland Ave., (414) 962-5182
525 E. Menomonee St., (414) 930-9282

Head to Shorewood to enjoy Camp Bar with your pooch for dinner, drinks or a good place to catch some football with your fur ball. Camp Bar in Tosa is friendly on the patio for your four-legged furry friend.

6. Draft & Vessel

4417 N Oakland Ave., (414) 533-5599

A Shorewood beer bar with charm for days. Like another spot on our list, crowdfunding helped give us this great local joint. Choose from 16 draft lines of rotating flavors to fill your mug or your growler to go. With no TVs, this is a place where good beer and good conversation are top priorities.

7. The Roman Coin
1004 E. Brady St., (414) 278-9334

A solid neighborhood bar with moderately priced drinks and a very pup-friendly attitude. They have a impressive micro brew list, one pool table and plenty of character (as most Brady Street joints do).

8. Art*Bar
722 E. Burleigh St., (414) 372-7880

Enjoy art on the walls, sports on the tube, a billiard table and a colorful aesthetic with your pooch at this popular Riverwest Bar where coffee, alcohol and even art is available for purchase. They have outdoor seating during the summer, but Fido can tag along all year long.

9. Enlightened Brewing Company

2018 S 1st St., (414) 364-6225

Enlightened Brewing Company, located in the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee, started with a group of friends that frequented craft beer bars, and held conversations on all the things that one might consider "off-limits" around the dinner table or in polite conversation. It's very much a warehouse space, but they've made it cozy and it's perfect for practicing their craft.

10. The Backyard
2155 S Kinnickinnic Ave., (414) 751-4087

BYOM! Bring your own meat and grill out on at The Backyard with Fido. One of their claims to fame is the free-to-use grills available in the patio out back. Winter or summer, though, you and your pooch can enjoy this Bay View bar.

Keep in mind that there are plenty of establishments in Milwaukee that may not allow dogs indoors, but have a nice patio space outside that are dog-friendly:

  • The Iron Horse Hotel / The Yard

  • DiModa Pizza

  • Drink Wisconsinbly Pub & Grub

  • Camp Bar Tosa

  • Colectivo

  • Café Hollander

  • Café Benelux

  • Café Centraal

  • Centro Café

  • City Lights Brewing Co.

  • Eagle Park

  • Goodkind

  • The Wicked Hop

  • Third Space Brewing

  • Lakefront Brewery

Milwaukee’s beer garden scene is bustling. If you’ve visited any number of the area’s permanent or traveling beer gardens, you’re sure to find folks young and old alike, families with kids and, of course, pups chasing Frisbees and lounging in the sun. Be sure to check out: The Landing at Hoyt Park and Estabrook Park.
